You've got coverage on Part D of Medicare

Ofev can be a costly but necessary prescription. The good news is all Medicare Part D plans will cover the drug. But how much will you have to pay? The answer depends on your specific circumstances.

What is Ofev and what does it treat?

Ofev (nintedanib) is a prescription medicine used to treat interstitial lung disease (ILD) associated with systemic sclerosis (SSc). It is used in adults who have not previously been treated with a medicine that targets SSc-associated ILD. Ofev can also be used to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). This drug blocks a protein called tyrosine kinase to prevent lung scarring.

How is Ofev covered by Medicare?

All Medicare Part D prescription drug plans have Ofev listed. You should still check your plan's formulary for a list of covered drugs, but you should be covered. How much you will pay will depend on what coverage phase you are in. Typically, Ofev is a Tier 5 drug, which means it's among the more expensive drugs covered by Medicare. Your price will also depend on which

coverage phase

you are in. Contact your Part D plan provider to see how much it would cost in your specific situation.

What are the side effects of Ofev?

Common side effects of Ofev include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, an increase in liver enzymes (ALT or AST), and weight loss. Other serious side effects may include liver damage, lung fibrosis, and hemorrhage. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions about the potential risks associated with taking Ofev. Make sure to report any side effects you experience while taking this medicine. Your doctor can help you determine the best course of treatment.

How to take Ofev?

Ofev should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. You may take it with or without food, but take it the same way each time. It is essential to keep taking Ofev even if you feel well and have no symptoms of ILD. Do not change the dosage or stop taking Ofev without talking to your doctor first.

How to get reimbursement for Ofev from Medicare?

If you have a Medicare Part D plan, you may be able to get reimbursement for Ofev. To do so, you'll need to submit a claim form along with the original pharmacy receipt with the date of purchase and your Part D ID number. Your doctor or pharmacist may also help you file a claim. Make sure to keep all of your paperwork in a safe place and submit the claim form to Medicare within 90 days of purchase. If you have any questions about eligibility or reimbursement, contact your Part D plan provider for more information.

Resources for more information about OFEV and Medicare coverage

The Medicare website provides information about coverage and reimbursement for Ofev, as well as helpful articles on topics like how to find the best Medicare plan for your needs. You can also find additional resources on the

National Institutes of Health (NIH) website

. Here, you can learn more about Ofev and its potential side effects, drug interactions, and more. Finally, if you have any questions, contact your Part D provider or seek advice from a healthcare professional.
